Is there a way to change the default installation
directory on Microsoft products? Works Suite 2003 and
Office 2000 want to install on the primary partition (C
drive) and I want them to install them on the F drive. I
am dual booting 2000 w/98.

Greetings --

Simply perform a custom installation and specify where you want
the files installed.

Greetings --

Turn off the Auto-Run and run Setup.exe directly from the CD.

Tried that. Also tried copying the CD contents to a file
and running setup from there.

So, you are saying that if you try to install Office 2000
to a location other than C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office
you have errors? What version of Office 2000? From whom
did you buy it? You should have no problems whatsoever
doing this.

Office 2000 was purchased through school. Educational
version. Works suite was purchased at OfficeMax. Its not
that I get errors when I try to install them in that
directory. They do not give me a chance to even choose the
directory I want to placed it in. Using Office, I have
been able to install Word and Excel in my directory of
choice, but none of the other apps. Using Works, as soon
as autorun or setup is activated, a window pops up telling
me I dont have enough space on my drive. I have 17GB free
on the F drive but less than 500MB on my C drive. C drive
holds my 98 system files. F drive is Win2K storage.

Hi Gerald,

Works Suite Suite requires a certain amount of disk space on drive C to
unpack itself and install system components. I'm not sure of the amount
required on C but it normally is on the range of 500 mb - however, I'm not
sure about the latest version which may require more space (don't they
always) and it varies by machine:

Free up more disk space on C and you will get to the window that allows you
to select the drive where you want the final installation to go. As you can
see from the following article, it is not specifically disclosed exactly how
much space is required. Move some data temporarily to another drive, empty
your trash, move your swap file to another drive. All of these things will
help you gain space on C.

Installation

Alternatively, you can explore the first CD and install Works from its own
install folder, then go back and do a custom install to add additional
programs as you wish. You can also try locating the ie6setup.exe file in
the cd set that will install IE first, that way your system doesn't require
so much space for the install.
