Hello,

LAN: Windows 2000 Server, 2000 and XP Clients. I have a
PDC that I need to replace. Due to non-functioning
AD/GP. I currently have my new PDC w/AD up and running.
I have a few questions when I goto remove the current PDC
w/AD:

1) Clients have been added to current domain two
different ways: local account created and then joined.
Joined domain w/o having a local account. Now I notice
within "Documents and Settings" that some users
have "username.domainname" and some users have
just "username". When I have these users join the NEW
PDC, how will there accounts be effected?

2) What would be the "fastest" means to join 35 local
clients to the NEW PDC? Go around to each machine? My
NEW PDC that I built up is named the same as my current
one, in the hopes it would help speed up the process.
True or false? Any other issues that might arrise from
doing this?

3) What is the "proper" way to join a machine to a
domain? Create a local account and then join the
domain. Or join it directly from the admin. account once
the OS installs?

4) My current DC is running a program that all users
access, so I will need to keep this machine on the LAN.
Is there a "quick" way to release this DC's
Domain "rights" so where it will no longer act like a DC,
but rather just a "file server"?

5) Is there a way to export my current users from my AD
w/o bringing over any rights? In short, all I want is
the actual username and password. So that I do not need
to manually type in all the accounts again. I would like
in import them into my new OU that I created on the NEW
PDC.

6) Do I need to be concerned about anything else durning
this "change-over" process?

7) Backing up AD on my new PDC: On my current PDC,
AD/GP is not working properly (hence the change over).
And was never set to be backed up. After reading a few
articles, is it correct to say that if on my NEW PDC, I
set a backup to run with "system state" included, that
would allow any future recovery purposes?

Thank's in advance!!
