changing cursor in Outlook Express, WORD, &c.

XP Pro has this weird cursor, which looks like a railroad spike. Visualize a capital T missing the upper bar left of the vertical. It shows up in Outlook Express, in Word, and here. Can this be changed? What alternative cursors might there be?

No, changing these schemes does produce different cursors for moving ovcer the desktop, and clicking on icons, but the specific cursor I don't like is a test line railroad spike found in Outlook Express (among other text applications). It did not change
