I changed a computer name that is part of a small network but it has

You cannot corrupt files by simply changing the computer name. You must have
done something else. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to guess what
you did based on your post.
Post back with a full description of the computer, the network, and what you
actually did (with steps outlined so we know we're talking about the same
thing).

The alternative (and I think better) solution is to have a local computer
professional come on-site and take care of the situation. Someone who knows
what s/he is doing and who can actually see the computer and network is
going to have a much better chance of fixing things than people who are
reading a sketchy newsgroup post. If you choose to go this sensible router,
do not use someone from BigComputerStore/GeekSquad. Get recommendations
from family, friends, colleagues.
