Changing computer model?

I have a VAIO that won't let me install drivers or updates from Sony unless
the model matches the original value from their restore DVD's. I have
reinstalled XP MCE from a set of vanilla CD's, so the model just shows
"Reserved"

Is there any way to change this, either through modifying part of the
install CD's so it sets the correct model on install, or without reinstalling
XP completely?
WMI's values are read-only for this, OEMInstallInfo and Model in
Computersystem.

How come they do not match?
