I need to split one of the states (map on power point) and use two different colors to highlight the terriorty

Hi Lottie,

Here's what I'd do:

Use a state clip art which includes counties, which should
be available through clip-art on-line.

After inserting the clip art, click on format, picture and
under the picture tab, click on recolor. Color the
counties to just two colors and you should achieve your
efect.

vertical or horizontal splitting or a more complicated line?

If it is a vector graphics ClipArt, which you can ungroup, you can do the
following for a simple vertical/horizontal split:

- Ungroup the ClipArt
- Click on the state you need splitted
- Copy the state and place it exactly over the original
- From the graphics tool bar choose the cropping icon
- reduce one copy of the state from one side as needed
- reduce the other copy of the state from the other side as needed
- color them differently.

If you need a more complicated border between territories, you could also
work with two copies of the state, but click on "Edit points" and edit the
border line.

Holler back, if you need more detailed information.

Kind regards,
Ute

Lottie,

It can only be done if it is exported or copy/ pasted to some sort of
graphical package. However, you can ungroup *some* autoshapes, but they will
only ungroup to whatever objects they were put together with. A workaround
would be to draw a custom shape over the parts using the Draw toolbar|
Autoshapes button| Lines, and experiment with either curves or freeform
lines.
