changing browser options

Jon

When I try to change the browser options (from the pull
down 'tools' menu) I get the following error message:

"This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator."

This behavior just started a week ago (previous to that I
had no problem with this issue for 2 years). I run "XP
Home", I am the only user on the machine, and log in as
system administrator. I don't know how this happened or
how to change it. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.

Did you run SpyBot Search and Destroy Immunize function?

See the section "Various Registry Fixes"
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
You should follow the advice on this page as well.

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://www.angelfire.com/dragon/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

Also, refer Fix 268 from Kelly's site:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Restore All tabs in IE and Removes the ** Internet Options ** Restrictions
as well

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled SpyBot immunize (protection) feature or any other
similar software.

Thanks for the reply. I actually did run Spybot and hit
the "immunize" function without knowing what it did!
Thanks for the help!
