Hello All,

I am a dangerous person with a little bit of knowledge and
I am having problems installing a Netgear WAB501 Wireless
card in my laptop that is running Windows XP Home. I did
some research and found out that XP does not always
recognize 32-bit cards and that I need to change the
BIOS. As I said, I have a limited knowledge and I need
some advice on how to do that.

Thanks for your help,

Pete

The operating system is immaterial. Only you know what
motherboard and BIOS you have, so only you know the answer to your
question. ;-}

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual or the
motherboard manufacturer's web site don't contain the needed
information, try one or more of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)

Wim's BIOS Page

Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the reply. My research has led me to believe
that I need to change the BIOS settings to that the 32-bit
PC Card is enabled. I have read online that this can be
done during the start-up, but I would like to know exactly
what I need to do.

Also, why is the 32-bit disabled as a default?

Thanks,

Pete

Hey Bruce,

Thanks for the post. The issue I have is that i am
supposed to change the bios setting so I can enable 32-bit
cards.

Any advice?

Pete

PC Card was originally know as PCMCIA. And I think the 32 bit version was
known as Cardbus?

The only thing I can advise is that you read the manual that came
with your PC or motherboard. There are a great many different
brand/model motherboards, and several different BIOS manufacturers.
Without knowing which specific motherboard and BIOS _you_ have, no one
can even look it up for you.
