I wonder can any one help me. My operating system is XP.

I've copied some files from my computer to CD to use on
my laptop but the files on the CD now state "read only".

I tried changing the attributes to cancel the read only
but message comes up "access denied".

What to do now? I need to use these files on my lap top
whilst I'm on holidays - adding information then sending
via email.

Greetings

You cant change the attributes while the file is on the CD. CD's must be
read-only unless you use third party software to write them. If you wish to
email the file copy it to your hard drive then change the attributes.

Hi, Gae!
Copy the CD files on to your laptop HD. Then use the freeware utility
called "Change ReadOnly" available from
http://www.sente.co.uk/downloads.htm Here is a description:
This application allows you to change the read-only attribute of
multiple files in subfolders.
Developed because of our own experience of copying files from CD's and
discovering they are all read-only. The problem is that there is no
easy way to clear this flag across multiple folders under Windows.
With this application, thousands of files in hundreds of folders can
all have their read-only attribute changed in one click.

It's not that hard to change them, Robert.

Just highlight all the folders, check the folder attributes box to read-only
(it will ask whether you want it to apply to all sub-folders & files) - yes,
then repeat the process, but uncheck the read-only box - all done.

My answer is correct. He can do what he wants if he copies them to hard drive. What would be yours as you seem to like being humilated.

He gets a short answer because it's so obvious. CD are read onlly media, cause you can't change something if it can't be written.

I recently copied files to my dads computer via network when computer was crashing. The files are VERY important and must have them

Running windows XP hom

when i copy them to the hard drive and then try to access them on my quickbooks program to open my company file it says they are a read only and must make them a read-write file. HOW DO I DO THAT. thought i only had to copy them to my hard drive. When i click on properties it does NOT say its a read only in the read only, hidden or archieve box (NONE CHECKED

WHAT DO I DO PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH HELP FAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I too had this problem when copying and writing files to a cd - could not change, delete or do anything but look at the file - phone up Windows XP support who told me that i would need to copy and write files to a CD-RW cd (cd rewriteable disc) not a CD-R (cd recordable disc) as the recordable only ever records information and is also a read-only file rewriteables can be altered, deleted, copied, etc properties changed (i.e. read only, archive etc.

Hope this is of help to you
