Changing Animation Speed?

Unfortunately not. But PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP) and 2003 do have this
ability.
 
This would depend on the effect. In some cases, you can fake some changes.
For instance, you can make an object crawl across the bottom of the screen
faster, by increasing the distance it has to travel. But in general, no.

In PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, animation timings are infinitely variable and
can animate with other animates. It is worth the upgrade to the newer
version.

Bill & Echo, I see that you're right, PPT 2002 is worth the upgrade (I'm on
a Win98SE machine so PPT2003 is out of the question, no?)
 
Correct. Windows 2000, XP or better for PowerPoint 2003. But PowerPoint
2002 is still very powerful and worth the upgrade. Who knows, with the new
version out, you may be able to cut a deal on last year's model.

Bill, I can just install PPT2002, but is it worth it to do the complete
Office XP upgrade?

I'm using Win98SE with 576M RAM on a P3/650. I'm primarily concerned with
performance and stability, and then features. Do Word XP and Outlook XP have
any compelling new feature enhancements over Office 2000?

If you choose not to install them, you will not be troubled. You are used to
using 2000, and in my humble opinion, the new features are not as important
in Word and Outlook, as they are in PowerPoint. Ultimately, this is your
call.

Make sure to install PowerPoint to a new directory. Use Custom Install
option.
