I have changed the name of the user account of one of the laptops here at
work. (from 'Bill' to 'Ted')

It is the only account on the laptop and has full administrator rights.

Problem:

The old user account name crops up everywhere.
'Bill's' Documents, etc.

How can I rectify this situation when I need to change the user account like
this?

Thanks for you time and attention.

Create a whole new account...
Use FAST to import the profile settings/files - but I think FAST leaves the
hidden system files (desktop.ini) that you are likely seeing the issue with
behind.

No, the problem is that a username change is only cosmetic. It doesn't propogate to the D&S folder tree, and other locations in the system.

Create a new user account with the name the way you want it to appear, then copy the old account to the new account.

Copy a User Profile:

Open System in Control Panel. On the User Profiles tab, and under Profiles stored on this computer, click the user profile you want to copy, and then click Copy To.

In the Copy To dialog box, under Copy profile to, type the location for the new profile, or click Browse to select the path.
Click Change to open the Choose User dialog box, click a new user from the Names list, and then click Add. The new user name will appear in Add Name. Click OK to add the user as a new user profile on your computer.

Note: You must be logged on as an administrator to the local computer to copy user profiles. To open a Control Panel item, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.

How to Copy User Data to a New User Profile

NOTE: You cannot copy to/from the account you are logged onto.

Did you and I say the same thing, but you in more detail?

Thank you for the information.

So, once I copy the account profile onto a new account, I can then delete
the old account correct?

Also, will all of the old account's references be gone?

Thanks.
