changing a header in a multiple header document

I use an xp computer with word 2000. My problem is that
after I insert the neccessary page break in order to
supposedly change the former header to one with new
information the instructions say to click on the header
toolbar that signifies "same as prvious." My problem is
that that icon is not active (not lit up) and therefor
does nothing when I click on it and therefor whatever
changes I have made in the document take place on all the
headers which of course is not what I want. Hope there is
a pro out there somewhere.

You need to insert a Section Break next page not a page break. By default,
Word will format the new section as "same a previous." This is helpful if
you have a lot of text in your former header and you only want to change a
little bit of it. When you get into the new header, uncheck "same as
previous" and make your changes.
 
To create different H or Fs, you must insert a SECTION Break not a Page
break) immediately before and after the page(s) you want the different H&F.
Once you have done that, you will then see that in View H&Fs, you have a
selection of H&Fs that you can move through and the Same As Previous but it
will be working.

I've just had another thought!!!

If this is just one page where you need a different Header or Footer, there
may be a much easier way to achieve this. Would you tell us what you are
trying to do and we may have a much simpler solution than making a new
section.
