changing a default

Hi-I downoaded a office program called,"open office" (free version) to try
it out. Havent really had time yet to see if I am gonna like it yet. Well,
when I want to open presentations that are sent to me, Open Office opens
them up, instead of MSPower pt. How can I get MSPpt to be the default for
this; for now, at least.

You didn't look at the install properly did you!
Right-click on a powerpoint file, choose "open with", select "MS Powerpoint"
and make sure that the box at the bottom is checked that says "Always use
this program". That ssould re-set your file association.
