I heard that if you change major hardware such as a
motherboard in your PC, windows XP will put your IP on a
block list for updates. I was wondering if this is true?
And if so, how can I change my motherboard and still keep
recieveing updates? Do I have to get intouch with someone
from microsoft to let them know? HELP!

Not true. If you change your motherboard you will have to do a repair
install (unless you replace the motherboard with an identical one) When you
do the repair install you will have to reactivate and download updates, but
you won't lose your data and settings.

Greetings --

Were you told this story on April 1st? ;-}

Normally, assuming a retail license, unless the new motherboard is
virtually identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE
controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair
(a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will probably also require re-activation. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.
