Technology lost "my documents" when changed profile. No longer have all
my word, excel, etc. files under c:\documents & settings\myname even
though the directory existed before the change. Cannot find under any
users listed in this directory. Can't do system restore as it is not
enabled by our IT guys. Am logging on same as before as administrator to
workstation only. Know files should still exist on hard drive but cannot
access them. Major number of business files may be lost. Any help
greatly appreciated!!!!

Unless your "old" user profile was deleted by a local administrator the
files should still be on the computer. Try searching for them by name or
extension such as *.doc . If they appear to be gone try using a file
recovery program though you probably will need to be logged on as a local
administrator to install and use it. If there is quite a bit free disk space
on your computer you have a good chance in recovering most if not all
assuming no encryption was used. The link below is to some free ones. Please
in the future back up your important files to DVD/CDROM or USB flash drive.
If you have no luck and the file are very important immediately stop using
the computer and take your hard drive to a data recovery specialist. ---

that may work but have limitations in trial version.

Thanks Steven. Been on vacation. Will give your suggestions a try. BTW,
have external hard drive but have not faithfully done the backup. You
can bet I will in the future!!!!!
