Changed Computer Name and Removed Domain, Now Can't Sign In

I recently was given a laptop that was once in a corporate network. When I
tried to change the name of the device and change it to a workgroup from a
domain, I have locked myself out of the device completely. The usual
"administrator/blank" sign-on does not work. My old sign-on does not work.
I am using XP Pro. Is there any way to break the boot sequence and get back
to a restore point or reset the security? I'm not even sure how to
re-install as it does not boot from the CD first. Any thoughts would be
appreciated!

To boot from the Windows XP CD you will need to change the boot sequence in
the BIOS. To get to the BIOS pres DEL or F2 or whatever key it says to enter
the BIOS as soon as you turn the laptop on. Then in there will be an option
to change the CD-ROM to boot before the Hard Drive, read the onscreen
instructions on how to change the order.

Since you don't seem to have a problem reinstalling XP, you can just
enter the BIOS and set it to boot from CD first - how you enter the BIOS
is specific to your laptop (typically you press F2, F1, F10, Del to
access it as it boots up, before windows starts).

By changing the computer from the domain to a workgroup, you have
destroyed the trust between the domain and the machine. In doing so,
you have also rendered your domain login credentials as invalid. You
need to be physically connected to the domain network, you need to have
administrative privileges to the workstation, and you need to have
sufficient privileges on the domain. Then you can add the machine back
on to the domain, after having first deleted the computer's old domain
account (unless you've also renamed the computer).
