Well--all those strings in the registry were there before, it's just the
definitions that have changed that bring it to the attention of the user, in
a negative way.

Over the weekend, the NNTP side of these groups had some technical issues,
so I posted more on HTML. On the HTML side, the MVP tag gets added
automatically by the forum software. One user suggested that it would help
if I added that tag on the NNTP side--so I've done it.

In fact, I've been an MVP for some years--before Microsoft Antispyware beta
began--but I've been pretty quiet about it.
So--this isn't a new status, but now I'm "out of the closet."

Hello Bill,

hope you parents can deal with it ;)
I am for sure, but some times i think it is almost not MVP but more like
OVP, where the O stands for Only!

There are a few other MVP's who look in on these groups regularly--but your
acronym strikes a chord--I did have a note from another MVP who said he'd
looked in, but I'd answered all the questions.

So--I'm not sure my level of posting is, in fact, the best thing for long
term health of these forums--we need broad participation--I'm not greatly
skilled in malware removal--Andy Manchesta and several others tend to fill
that role.

So--here's to the health of these groups as a community of peers--where we
can all learn from each other, and get help when we need it, and help others
as well.

Tops was a peer to peer network, carried over phone wiring, as I
recall--probably related to Appletalk--it worked with both Macs and PC's as
I recall, although I used it on a pure PC network. We really only used it
within a single department office just to get the hang of the technology and
how useful it would be. When we went to Ethernet, we expanded building
wide--150 pc's or so--using the existing 25 pair phone cable in place,
mostly.

I suspect Tops was a descendant of what is talked about here:

I never realized that it was a Sun product, originally.
