Change User Can't print

I can print to my HP printer on one user in Window's XP in every application.

But when I try to print from the other user on my computer, I can't print
anything from Notepad, Word, Excel or even from the Internet.

I tried the Troubleshooter and got to the "Investigate" part. The
troubleshooter said that the parallel port might be functioning. But when I
tried to uninstall the parallel port, It said "cannot uninstall device.
Descendent's refused the request. Only descendent's are required for boot up."

Has an alien taken over 1/2 of my computer?

Everything on the printer work's fine with the first user but nothing with
the second.

Help!

I think you are right. The first user is the admin.
Where can I find out whether or not there are "system eventlog entries?"

When I try to print on the other user, the print dialog box appears that it
is printing, then it never prints. Then when I cancel the print job, it says
that it is cancelling but it never cancels and my computer fan slowly builds
to a mini-roar. So I wind up having to restart to get the computer to cool
off.

I'll bet the first user is admin and the other user is not.

Are there any system eventlog entries when the other user attempts to print?

Hi Ro,

I replied to a similar sounding query from Mike on 12/02, thus:

"You don't say what your problem is exactly, but you might find that you
have
a problem where only 'Administrators' are allowed to use the HP.

It took us ages to find out that our HP3330 came with the 'security' options
set for Power Users and Administrators only. As there was no Power Users
group on our system 'Users' were stuck.

The problem remained undetectable because our XP came with 'use simple file
sharing' checked. This rather innocent looking setting hides all the
'security' tabs from the properties sheets of devices such as the printer,
so you never get the chance to see that it is not set for all users. I have
asked HP to be aware of this in future drivers...

'Use simple file sharing' is also found in a very odd place: the very bottom
of the 'Tools/FolderOptions/View' menu! Not somewhere one would tend to
look for something that has such a profound affect on your ability to set
security options and get control of your devices!

Regards,

Steve_H"

Thus you may find that if you turn off simple file sharing, this gives you
access to the security tabs that then let you add Users to the groups who
can use the printer. However, you will still probably find, that there is a
problem that when one user is logged on, and still logged on when you
'change user', you will have to turn the printer off at the mains before it
will reassign itself to you. If you find out how to get around this without
buying the HP print server to go with the printer, please let me know how to
do it!

Good luck,

Steve_H
