I recently encountered a change in my IE6 where the view
toolbars shows a choice entitled "eboavecchqg". I have
no idea how this got here. It brings up a list of
buttons on the toolbar for search, news, gambling, MP3,
etc. Any way to get rid of this?

Hi Glen,

The settings are stored here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser

But, the actual key exists in HKCR > Clsid

You need to spot the toolbar clsid and delete teh corresponding entry in
clsid.

Better take a registry backup first.

Usually that type of ahem..stuff...is spyware. I
suppose it won't be 100% of the time, however, I
personally recommend using a program called Ad-aware from
lavasoft.de (site is in english).

It scan's your computer for spyware. This picks up if
not 100% of spyware, very very close. You then select
the files from a list by checking the boxes, and hit a
continue button to delete all these files from your
computer. Files included are temp files, registry
entries (most common I see are 'alexandra' in the name).

Glen,
"eboavecchqg" = looks like LOP (parasite) to me ......
LOP uses random generated filenames to avoid detection by Spyware removal
tools.
