I have a portable PC which comes with a function key to simulate this key
combination (CTRL-ALT-DEL, or SAS key).

I have always wanted to change the function of this key combination so that
I can use this function to trigger something else.

I have searched in the registry and internet trying to find a way out. But
the only thing I can find is to enable or disable this function.

Now, I come up with an idea...... Pressing on SAS key will trigger a default
program - Task Manager (taskmgr.exe) which can be found in
"C:\windows\system32" folder. My idea is to rename other program into
"taskmgr.exe" so that SAS will trigger this "other program" instead of the
real task manager....

To do so, I reboot my computer into DOS mode, rename the original
"taskmgr.exe" into "task.exe", and make a copy of "Freecell.exe" and rename
into "taskmgr.exe".

If what I have done is correct, when I go back to my Windows-XP and press on
the SAS key, it shall wake up "Freecell" program because this program has a
name called "taskmgr.exe"....

And the fact is.... it works.

I re-try other game program..... everything works.

But, the problem is.... this taskmgr.exe needs to sit at the location of
"C:\windows\system32".... I do not know how to make it to other location....
also, if I cannot make it with some other 3rd party program. Only those
Microsoft programs found in this folder cross the boarder...

Does anyone have the same wish to make such a change, and does anyone make
it?

Thanks for contacting me.

Hi "Timu CHEN"

A quick search of the registry found the file listed in two
locations. Presumably if you change the path from system32
to system for example and copy the file there, it should work.
