The Keyboard on my Dell laptop broke. Dell says it is the motherboard and a
replacement keyboard will not help. So I am using an external Keyboard.

Only problem is: There is no fn button on that, and I have no way to adjust
the screen brightness!

Any idea?

Have you looked at the software that controls your graphics card? This
usually have adjustments for brightness and gamma etc.

Do you mean the settings in Control panel?

Yes, there is no fix there. As per the Dell manual the fn button is the only
way to go.

thanks!

Did a quick Google and found the following (note the last line)

The Fn key on an external keyboard (Toshiba) can be emulated by keeping the
"Left <Ctrl> + Left <Alt> pressed together". In order to activate this
option, you need to "enable" the "Fn key on external keyboard" option inside
the BIOS settings.

Here you can read how to enter the BIOS settings:

Click on <ESC> right after you turn on your notebook, and find the
appropriate setting inside the BIOS.

P.S. Dell notebooks make use of the <SCROLL LOCK> as replacement for the
<Fn> key
