Hi -- I have WinXP Pro. I've changed my other font sizes using
'Desktop(rt-clk)>Properties>Appearance tab', but none of them adjusts the
font-size of the time display in the lower-right-hand corner of the screen.
It appears that this font size & type is also used for many other things, as
well, such as the names of the opened programs on the 'START-bar'. On the
'Appearances-tab', it seems to be the "Windows font". Can anyone help?
Thx -- Bob

I have been watching this with the hope an answer?
Anybody?

Is there a way of increasing the font size (and/or making it bold) used for
displaying folder contents?

Yeah but.... which display of folder contents?
Dialog boxes:
Display Properties> Appearance> Advanced. Select the Icon item. Change the
font size. Up it one or two notches. The font in dialog windows will
increase: Save As, Open, etc. This change will run over into other areas of
XP. The clock's display of date/time for example. Try it. If you don't like
the results, change it back to what it was before.

Can think of two other possibilities that would help with any folder window
but they also have far reaching effects:
--Display> Appearance> Font Size. Changes the font for many items on a
global basis.
--Display> Settings> Advanced> General> DPI: Change to Large [120 DPI].
Also a global change but one that is more uniform through out the GUI.

Okay one more - Have you tried Clear Type yet? ClearType is intended for
LCD monitors - increases the horizontal depth of the font - but some folks
like using it on their CRT monitors too.

If the current font size is bearable, changing to Clear Type may add the
extra definition to the characters needed for easier reading. Display>
Appearance> Effects> Font Smoothing. Then visit the Typography section of
the Microsoft website and use the Clear Type tuner. Using this tool you can
keep the higher definition but tone it down a bit:
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypeInfo.mspx

Once at that page, click the "ClearType Tuner Updated" link. You'll be
prompted to accept a download, accept it and let it install. Then step
through the sequence of pages to adjust the implementation of ClearType.

WOW! Big thanks :-))
I will print that lot and experiment.
It may take a week or two...<VBG>
I must remember (for once!) to keep track of the changes I make...

You're welcome. Keeping track of changes is always a good idea. Have fun
experimenting.
