Hi,

I am going to change server, is it possible to FTP upload my local web with
all its folders (also hidden) to the new server in order not to have
downtime after the new IP address resolves?

Or do I have to wait and suffer the downtime in order to "publish" to the
new server?

Thanks in advance!

Steen

If you are going to use server extensions, do not ftp as it will corrupt the
extensions.

If using the http publish method for extensions, you can use the new IP
address to publish to instead of the domain name.

I just moved 2 webs from one server to another using the same method.

You might get an IP address for your new site which you can publish to.
Then as soon as the DNS resolves, your up and laughing.
Check with your potential new host to see if you can publish to your IP
address.

Peter.

If you are moving your account to a host that uses shared IPs and FP
extensions, then you will have to wait until the DNS servers have propagated
your domain name before you can publish.

If you are moving your account to a host that uses static IPs and FP
extensions, then you can publish as soon as you have the IP via FP using
http://ipaddress
