Hi,

I have given my PC to a family member and he wants to
change the account info. (Doc directory structure still
shows my name). Also, anytime he installs a new program
my account info comes up (i.e., name, etc). If there a
easy way to change this root info. I have rename his
current user from me to him, but this other root info
still exist.

Thanks

Jim

He'll need to log in using the built-in Administrator account and
create a user account of his own, rather than continue using yours.

Assuming you are the sole administrator simply log on and
create a new administrative account log onto that one and
then delete yours. You will need to use regedit to
navigate to the location in the registry where the
Registered Owners name is stored to change it.
go>start\run and type in regedit and click ok or hit enter
on your keyboard. Now navigate the following route by
clicking the + sign beside each entry in this order.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion Now right click on CurrentVersion and
you will see the keys entries in the right panel. Right
click on registered owner and then click modify and type
your name in here. You can also change the registered
organization here. Be sure you write down the instructions
and follow them exactly as doing the wrong modification in
the registry may result in a useless system. XP is more
forgiving than previous OS's though. Have fun.
