I would like to have 4 (or maybe 5) visible icons in the XP
quicklaunch. There doesn't seem to be a setting, and TweakUI or
TweakI won't touch it (unless I'm completely blind). The only
registry key I can find which is remotely related is :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Streams\Desktop\TaskbarWinXP

If it's in here, it displays. Edit the contents.

I'm not sure what you're asking for. If you don't want them there, delete
them or hide them. Messing in your registry is NOT for a newbie.

Right click oin the taskbar and ensure that it is not locked. Place you
mouse at the left habd edge of the quick lauch bar and drag it to where you
want it. Then re-lock the taskbar

Or you could right click on the taskbar, selct Properties, Notification
Area, Customize, and decide which ones should show .

You could just drag and drop shortcuts.

My turn to criticise....
Try not to use the same header to your replies, as it reads, "JAB asked
wistfully", when I wasn't asking.

The icon will not show in Quick Launch, until you restart windows.

----addQLicon.vbs--
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Set WshSysEnv = WshShell.Environment("PROCESS")
myProfile = WshSysEnv("UserProfile")
quickLaunchPath = ( myProfile & "\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch")
set oUrlLink = WshShell.CreateShortcut(quickLaunchPath & "\MY Notes.url")
oUrlLink.TargetPath = "http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/xp_notes.htm"
oUrlLink.Save
--cut--

You posed a question as to whether I was a granddad, even if you didn't
realise it.

Ah-ha! That's it!! I had assumed that a locked "Task Bar" was a
locked "Task Bar" -- not a locked "Quick Launch" or locked
"Notification Area", but "Quick Launch" is listed under the t-bar
properties, so I guees it's tasbarish. All the other posters were not
on the paper.

Hardly, as there seems to have appeared be a line or two where there wasn't
before, Lord Dickwad of Grantham.
