Alternativelly, can I stop the logon service so that backup domain
controller does not do logon authentications? Thanks, T

Hi there,
Is there a way to change the NT4 logon server on an XP machine?
Thank you, T

In NT4 there is only one logon server.

1. No. Gobs and gobs and gobs of things depend on the Logon Service

2. BDCs in the NT4 "world" do not do logons. Their primary job is to
maintain a "backup" copy of the Domain Database

If anyone knows differnet and has some reference material, that's fine, I'm
be glad to read it.

Hi there,
Very good, but some machines are authenticated by the BDC in the echo
%logonserver% command which I want to change to the PDC, somewhere in
the registry if possible. Thanks, T

The BDC did not do the authentication,...it simply passed in on to the PDC.
Then again we are talking about something from 9 years ago and I don't
remember all the details of how it worked.
