I'd like to change my notification email from my isp at home to my hotmail
account, so that I can access it from my laptop when I'm out. Is there any
way I can do that?

I am not sure what you actually want to do. You could check if Hotmail
supports mail collection from additional POP servers. On this way you
could redirect the mail to your Hotmail account. Or you could check
whether your other mailbox can automatically forward mails to other
accounts.

I mean a response to a thread I started.

News group access doesn't depend on email address - just look at the headers
in this post.

Are you REALLY talking about newsgroup access, or a thread in Email? (The
two are completely different)

I went to the site you suggested, clicked Manage Profile. Nowhere did I find
an email address for newsgroups. I one email address that was there for
personal information was my hotmail account. But that's not where I'm
notified of replies to the threads I started. It's my address given me by my
ISP.

How do you mean "notified of threads that I started" - News readers
generally don't do that, and as I notice you are using the Web interface to
access this news group, then that doesn't notify you EITHER. Where are these
"threads" that you started posted to? A Forum perhaps rather than a News
group?

At the bottom of every post or reply, there is a checkbox whose label is
Notify me of replies. If one checks it, one is notified at a certain email
address when someone else posts to that thread.

I want to change the email address that I am 'Notify me of replies'.

Right. Have you signed in to Microsoft passport? THAT is where you change
the email address for notifications. On the sign-in page, there is, at the
bottom, a link to change your profile. Go there and in your personal details
there is an option to change your email address.

You haven't been reading my posts. The address on the manage your profile
says my hotmail address, but that is NOT where the notifications are going.
They are going to the email address on my msdn subscription. EVERY OTHER
Microsoft newsgroup sends notifications to my hotmail address. What I need
to know is how I do that in this newsgroup, so I can know if there is a reply
to my posts in the XP newsgroups.

then change the email address on your msdn subscription.
Why can't you subscribe to msnews.microsoft.com news server directly in a
newsreader program? It would cure all this at a stroke.

In which newsgroup are you seeing this behavior?

Have you contacted MSDN Support about this?
