During installation of vista business, I slipped.

The error proliferates everywhere, and though only
annoying I'd like to fix it.

Can it be done?

Yes. Hard way, use only if necessary. CAUTION Be aware if you have
already registered SOME software with an incorrect spelling of your
name and you then force a change in the Registry as described below
you might lock yourself out of the software since some encodes your
name as part of some security/registration scheme.

If indeed your misspelled name proliferates throughout your system you
might need to change it in multiple places since it can get written to
many places. For example each bit of software you install when you
register your software will likely record your name somewhere in the
Registry. Some software forces you to type in your name, others look
up what you've already used and therefore can proliferate the error.

Use the built-in Registry Editor to find the error then correct each
entry.

Example:

Go to Start, type in regedit

Make sure you start at the very top of the tree labeled computer.
Now click on Edit, then Find, and type in the misspelled word, hit
enter and wait. Correct as you find them then keep hitting 'find next'
and correct each error. Reboot.

Easy Way:

If you only want to change how Vista itself sees you, then go to
Control Panel, User Accounts. Change your account name there. Reboot.

Regedit - no problem.

However, C > Users > hANK I get no "Rename" opportunity.
I unchecked 'read only' for folder and contents, but
it's still unchangeable.

Get in the habit of replying thusly:

Name: Your Name Here
Company: Your Company Name Here

Nobody wants to know your name anyway.

What a ****ing retard.

Thank you.
This is one of those mistakes - like a bad marriage -
that has long term consequences. On the other hand,
perhaps I can just live with it...
