Change from Primary to Secondary

I have ended up with two Primary AD integrated servers on my network. I
would like to demote one of the servers to secondary. Is this possible,
and is their more to it than just changing the server type?

Thanks

You would have to a. Demote the DC to a member or b. change one of the zones
to Standard primary (Remove from AD)

If one DC has a zone in AD, the zone will replicate to all DCs in the
domain. You cannot mix a secondary zone and a AD integrated zone of the same
name on DCs in the same domain.

Both zones have the same name. If I demote one of the DCs will it wipe
out the zone completely, or just the zone related to the DC being demoted?

The zone will remain in Active Directory on the remaining DC, It will be
removed from the DC demoted, What would be the point of doing this?
You should have two DCs at the minimum in each domain. If you demote one it
would leave you with one.

do you want to demote a DC to member server so that you end up with 1
DC only (not recommended) or do you want to make a DNS server that is
also a DC that hosts AD-I zones to host secondary zones?

If the latter: why do you want to do that?

Anyway: change the zone type from AD-I to secondary and assign the
other DC as the Master DNS server for the secondary zone. Make sure
the DNS server with the AD-I zones allow zones transfers to the
secondary DNS server

The OP would have to first make the ADI zone on one of the DCs a standard
primary zone, doing that will remove the zone from AD and the other DC.
Then the secondary could be created on the other DC. You cannot have a
secondary of an ADI zone on DCs in the same domain. (or forest if that is
the replication settings on Win2k3)
