is it possible to change the format of a picture in XP home, for example from
BMP to jpg? if so how do i do it? if not then what software would i need to
perform this conversion?
kind regards

You can do this easily.

If you have just a few, you can open the picture in Paint and then save it
in the format you want.
Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Paint.
Click on File and Open. Select you .bmp photo file and then click on File
and Save as. For File type in the opening window, scroll and select jpg.
This will add a new file in the folder with the .jpg extension.

If you have many, download the free software:
www.irfanview.com
After you install it, click on File and batch rename/convert. You can now
convert a group of files easily. Also nice software to have. Another free
one is:
www.faststone.org
and
www.picasa.com
