How do you change a PowerPoint presentation from present1.ppt to
present1.pps, ie change the extension so that people can only view your
presentation.

Thanks,
Danielle

Danh,
You can do it in a number of ways:
Use File - save as - and in the save as list choose PowerPoint show (*.pps).
In the file open dialog rightclick the name of the file and choose rename,
change ppt to pps press enter, answer yes when asked if you want to change
the extention. Be aware that you loose the ppt file this way. So if you want
to edit later on it's better to do this on a copy of your presentation.
Or you can do it in the Windows Explorer basically the same process as
above.

First changing the extension wont prevent people editing your powerpoint. A
pps file can be editted by opening from file > open in powerpoint or right
click > new.

To change the extension first you need to be able to see it. Do your
powerpoint icons say something.ppt? If not in windows explorer choose Tools >
folder options > view and UNTICK hide extensions for known types. Now you can
change the "t" in .ppt to an "s".

To stop people editting files in Powerpoint > Tools >options > security and
set a modify password. Note this only works in XP onwards and anyone with
earlier versions wont be able to open them at all!
