Using 2007 but saving as 2003 - have 2003 on my laptop.
Created graphs but using icon on a new slide.

Now I need to edit data and the help screen says:
Under Chart Tools, on the Design tab, in the Data group, click Show Data.

Feeling ignorant but I can't find it.

The Help file is expecting you to use Excel/PPT 2007 for the editing, so
that's what that is describing. Since you're using 2003, you won't find the
Chart Tools Design tab | Data group | Show Data button.

What is it you're trying to do?

Thanks for responding.

I discovered if I right click on the graph, I can select Object, Edit.
Now I can edit the data. What do I need to do to see the graph again?

Also, like Excel, I had formulas in the chart from a slide to get the data
from the chart of another slide. It gave me the #REF# error when I reopen
powerpoint. Is it possible to have it update? I was trying not to enter data
twice.

I don't know -- I try to avoid working on charts when mixing both 2007 and
2003. I think there is probably a Chart tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet
where you edited the data. If so, click that so the chart displays.

I don't think they're all in the same spreadsheet again, but I don't know.
How did you enter these graphs in the first place? Insert | Object? You
might try Edit | Edit Links.

When I started I added a new slide. Then I clicked on the chart icon on the
slide. It opened the chart on the left and excel spreadsheet on the right of
the screen.

Later I needed to edit the data. I rlight clicked on the chart and selected
Chart Object, Edit. This opened the excel worksheet full screen. Now I can't
get back to see the chart.

I saved-as and made the file 2007.

I can't find Chart Object, Edit. But if you right-click the chart or a data
series in the chart and choose Edit Data, the spreadsheet will open. There's
also an Edit Data button you can use that's on the Chart Tools Design tab.
If you can't see the PPT slide with the chart after the Excel spreadsheet
opens, just use the "restore" button (it's the square button in the upper
right corner of the window -- between the minimize and close buttons [the
minus and the X]) to resize the Excel window so you can see the PPT file
behind the spreadsheet.

By the way, when you use the chart icon or Insert | Chart in PPT 2007, it
opens Excel, sure, but that chart and spreadsheet are embedded in your PPT
file. They don't exist outside the PPT file, and they are not linked to the
PPT file. They are embedded.
