When AD was setup on out Win2K Server they used our full domain name
mycompany.com and now it's causing DNS issues with our off site web server.
Is there a way to change the .com extension to .local or whatever? I've read
about it in Windows 2003 Server but is it possible in Win2K ?

in 2000 it is /not/ possible to change the DNS-Name.
You must be use DCPROMO to deinstall your Domain, and
use DCPROMO to install your Domain with the new Name.

What issues exactly? Most likely it will be easier to resolve those than
rename the Domain. Which I don't believe is possible in a Win2K/AD
Domain anyway.

You could create a new Domain and migrate everything to it, but that's a
bus load of work.

Accessing your off site web server could be as easy as giving it a
record in the internal DNS.

Thanks Cliff. I've actually been able to setup hosts for mail, www, ftp
etc.. but when staff internally try to go to mycompany.com without the www
it is unable to resolve because mycompany.com points to the internal IP of
the domain controller. It's not a huge issue but I get the occasional staff
member who complains they can't get to the website.

I'd suggest that it would be better to live with it! I suppose you could
run a webserver on the Domain Controller and redirect to
www.mycompany.com but they would be waaaay over the top.
