Change desktop background

How? I can't...

Display->Properties->Desktop lists only those that come with XP
Browsing I can see other images (jpg's, etc) but when choosing they don't
show on the "preview" screen...
Added some to c:\windows\web\wallpapers but they are not listed in the
available background images list..

Desktop setting is Windows Classic, Display->Properties->Desktop->Customize
Desktop->Web->"Lock desktop objects" is unchecked


OS is XPhome updated to the hilt...
Ewido, AVG and a² doesn't find anything


I had SpySheriff a coupl of weeks ago, but with help here I got it away and
could change the background back to normal (Win default backgrounds). Now I
want to use some of my own pics, but....

First I thought to use the AntiPuper tool, but security2k's homepage (
secured2k.home.comcast.net..) doesn't answer...Not available is the message
that IE or Opera returns me...
