Change DB location for Comp. Database Manager

Hi All

I'm trying to have my Component Database point to another remote DB...
sounds simple huh?

so i open up Component DB Manager and under the DB tab i click the
change.. button and type in the name of the other computer that has a
Comp. DB running... i figured it d be taht simple... wrong... it
prompts me with "Cannot connect to the database at 'Server_Name' Please
verify your database connection." Bummer:-(

my goal is to have all my dev't machines point to one DB of components
housed on our main build server. but apparently it wasn t as straight
forward as i hoped. Is there something i m forgetting to do?

thanks for your time

Have you tried it with an IP address as opposed to the NB name? (JFG)

Are you running SQL over there, or just MSDE?
Make sure both machines have the samve version of MDAC installed. preferably
the latest.

The only way I know of to change a DB location is through CDM, and it seemed
like you were doing it right.

JC

Hi JC

Yes i have tried the IP address andit returns that same error prompt.

Both machines are running MSSQLServer. pretty what come stock with XPe
install.

Something to note after installing XPe theres a SQL Server Service
Manager in my tray and when i expand it under the server drop down i
can see the name of the machine i want to connect to. so i m still a
bit confused

any other suggestions will be greatly apprciated

thanks for your time
