I changed my computer's from a stand alone pc to workstation on the advice in a newsgroup and want to change it back to it's previous role as a PC. Now I don't remember how I did it . For some reason System restore will not let me restore to an earlier point even though there are plenty of restore points. I keep getting "restoration incomplete". Help!

Since the only difference between Standalone and Workstation is where the
software is installed, there is not much you need to do. When using PC as a
Workstation, you can run programs that are installed on another PC that acts
as a Server.
If you are running programs in this PC that are in fact installed somewhere
else, just remove the shortcuts that start the program. There are some
programs that are actually installed on Workstation with small portion
residing on the Workstation and the main portion on Server in which case you
need to uninstall those.
I have a feeling that you do not fall in either category but instead you are
simply sharing some drives/folders with another PC in which case all you
need to do is remove the shares and/or mapped drives.

Thanks for your help, Pavel. This is the only computer. Everything I use is on this one. I don't know if I have any mapped drives but I don't think so. I did create 2 partitions when I first set up the computer but that was ages ago. I just want to go back to my standalone system but can't figure out where to make the change. I've tried to change it in the System properties, performance setting but there is no option to change. Any idea.

How is what you have now different from what you think it should be when it
is 'standalone'?
