I installed Windows 2000 on a computer. After that I made
an image of the C-partition with Norton Ghost 2003.

When I use the image to install an other pc with the same
configuration, both computers have the same computername.

Can I change the computer name, without starting and log
in to Windows 2000?

Maybe with a DOS-based (or Unix based) startup disk or
something like that?

you could just pull the network connect on on the new pc, rename the machine
via local admin credentials and then re-connect your network cable.

It's been a while since I've used Ghost, but there used to be a utility
called GhostWalker that changed the SID and machine name. That would be your
DOS-based utility. I would check your Ghost 2003 CD.

The more "elegant" way to do it is to use SysPrep. You run Sysprep just
before imaging the system, and then run Ghost. Once you put the image onto
the new machine and boot it up, you are presented with an option to name the
computer, which creates a unique SID.
