There is the danger that you have forgotten the places you have used it
such as shortcuts and favourites for network connections and HOSTS files
on other PCs, backup locations, router configurations etc.

To change your computer name in Vista:

- Right click on My Computer (or right-click on Computer in the Vista Start
Menu) and select Properties.
- This will take you to the System Settings. You will see a "Computer name,
domain, and workgroup settings" section.
- Click on "Change settings" over on the right.
- Click on the "Change" button .
- Type a new computer name in the "Computer name" field and keep clicking
OK. You will need to restart the computer to complete this process.

As far as any dangers of doing so, it depends on if you have more than one
computer. If you have a network and other users are accessing resources on
this machine (shared folders, printers, etc) then those connections will
have to be updated at each machine manually; they will not update by
themselves.
