We used a logon script which identifies printers from a particular print
server we have designated and then remaps the printer to the new print
server. In our script the printer names stayed the same, but the server
just changes. We did this when we relocated 600 printers to a new print
cluster. We ended up touching about 5000 users with this script. If you can
keep the old print server up and running while people are transfering over
to the new print server, it makes the job a little easier. If people by
mistake add a printer on the old print server again, it will be cleared up
the next time they logon. This got us about a 98% success rate. We had
some issues with the script not deleting the old ques of the users. Once we
got to a critical mass of users moved over, we shutdown the old one and
handled some calls from users, but over all a success.
