Change bullet/numbering from bold to unbold

I'm using PowerPoint 2003. My issue is best described by example. Create a
bulletized list with two lines. Line 1 has the word Cat. Line 2 has the
word Dog.

* Cat
* Dog

If Cat is bold, the bullet * in line 1 automatically changes to bold.
However, the bullet in line 2 remains unbolded (unless I bold Dog).
How do I turn off (or get around) this automatic "bolding" of bullets ?

Are you using numbering? This doesn't seem to affect bullets.
One workaround is to add a spacing just before the word.
For example:
1.Cat to 1. Cat

Now, bold only the cat. If the spacing is not bolded, the number will also
remain unbolded.

Thanks for the quick reply. You are correct. The issue is with numbered
lists. Your work-around works (add a single unbold space in front of bold
text). However, this causes a one character offset for wrapped bullets. Is
there another approach?

1. Cat in the
Hat
2. Dog on the
Log

After tinkering a bit, I now have one solid work around.
(1) Add a single unbolded space in front of text
(2) Add a new tab for wrapped text so it aligns with the offset first line
in bullet
(3) tab wrapped text to new tab position

Thanks to tohlz for the help.

Be careful when adding spaces to numbered lists. If the text wraps to a
second line, the number may not show when you play the slide.
