I would like to change the background of a powerpoint
presentation without changing any of the fonts, colors,
bullets etc.

I have tried to open the slide with the correct
background, click format painter and then click on the
slide master in the presentation ....problem is that all
the formatting comes across not jsut the background.

Any ideas?

I have worked out how to change font, text etc but how do
i make autoshapes or borders appear the colour i want?

From the Normal edit screen, there are multiple ways to change the
characteristics of a shape.

The most universal is to select the shape, then Format | AutoShapes and a
dialog box will open with multiple options.

I suspect you would benefit from some of the excellent general tutorials
available on-line. Try:
http://www.soniacoleman.com/
http://www.powerpointbackgrounds.com/powerpointtutorials-others.htm
http://www.powerpointanswers.com/featuresandbasics.html

There are many others that should be on the list, but these will keep you
busy for a little while. :-)

Oh, and there is one more link that deserves a special mention. The link
that is in my signature is not mine, but I include it with my posts. It is
there for a reason; it is that good. It covers most of the topics asked in

To just change the background, you can use Format/Background and choose
a different one there. Then click Apply to All Slides.

Why not just insert a coloured square pulled to the size of the slide in
question and send it to the back? It overlays the background template and
everything else remians as-is
