i was wondering if someone could tell me if there is a way to go back to the
old way my computer was before i installed the update for vista...i hate the
new way and lost all my icons and data....HELP

There is no old way and new way. Take some time and explain exactly what
your talking about, what was it like before the update, what update did you
install, what did it change?

well I got this lap top for christmas of 2007 and it is a hp, I installed a
disk that told me it would update my vista. my computer had vista but this
was going to be an update the disk, the cover of the case has microsoft on
the top right corner, upgrade your windows vista experience (center) and
windows anytime upgrade on the lower right corner...i am not sure what else
you need...i know nothing about computers...can you tell...i got yelled at
that if something is working do not mess with it...well i did...can you
help...

It sounds like you upgraded from some version of Vista to another version of
Vista. Really, I understand that you know nothing about computers but no
one can help you without better information. I'm not saying this to hurt
your feelings but you'd be far better off taking the laptop to a computer
professional or even a knowledgeable friend - someone who is *really*
knowledgeable and not just saying he is - because you don't know enough to
provide the necessary information to get newsgroup help.

I'm sorry that you got yelled at, and please don't think anyone here is
yelling at you, but someone who can *see* the computer will be able to sort
things out for you quickly. It will be a long, drawn-out process - and may
very well be impossible - to do this here in writing.

It sounds like you might have done a 2nd install.

have a look and see if there is a windows.old folder...

THANK YOU FOR YOU HELP...I WILL DO THAT....just took a shot that someone
could help me out this way first...THANKS

If you want to go back to before the anytime upgrade, since you have an HP
you either have a restore disk or a restore partition to restore to factory
specs. Look in your manual.

An anytime upgrade isn't going to make the changes that the OP seems to be
referring to. The upgrade adds extra programs and features, not much
different than installing new software.
The OP may have done a fresh/clean install instead of an in place upgrade.
