Change an existing theme

Hi

I have created a template in PowerPoint 2007 and have created own theme
color set and have applied that to my template.
I can see when I go under Design tab and Colors that my them colors that I
have created is activated.

But...

I have later changes the color in my theme by editing my theme the
connection to the theme is lost.

Anyone who can give me a good explanation in how to work with themes?

If I have created 100 templates I thought I only could change the theme in
any of my templates and that the color would change in all templates
automatically?

A theme is a set of colors, fonts and effects. It is named with the
extension THMX. A THMX file can be applied to Word, PPT or Excel documents,
and it provides the same set of colors, fonts, effects in each of the
applications. This is a good way to provide continuity to reports and the
like.

What's a bit confusing is that THMX files also carry slide masters and
layouts. Of course these don't show up when you apply a THMX to a Word
document, for example. But they will show up if you apply the THMX to a
PowerPoint presentation or template file.

A template is DOTX, POTX, XLTX. Templates are application-specific: A DOTX
is for Word, a POTX is for PowerPoint, an XLTX is for Excel. Templates are
based on themes.

The reality of it is, in PowerPoint, templates only need to be used if you
need to supply users with sample slides. Otherwise, because a THMX file
contains slide masters and layouts, you could skip the template file
altogether. Then again, many users don't know what a THMX file is, so you
may want to create the THMX then Save As and save a POTX. But for all
intents and purposes, they're identical.

In Word, you might create a template so you can provide the users with
Building Blocks or the like.

Changes to a theme or template get applied to files that are based on that
theme/template. But the changes aren't retroactive, so they don't get
applied to existing files based on the theme/template.

If you've created a bunch of templates already, you can apply the different
theme to them, and the template will pick up the new colors, fonts, effects
you've specified. Then you can apply the new template to existing
presentations.

Many thanks for your reply!
So the only way to solve this is to create a macro that loops through all
presentations I have created and applies the theme again?

Do you also know what the option "Reset theme colors" means that is visible
straight under where I can choose different themes?

I can see what the options does if I select my theme and then select Edit
theme.
If I for instance have trying new colors and want the theme to go back to
its original theme colors. But if I haven´t changed the theme and the options
is there what does that mean?

If you've applied a different color scheme to some of the slides in the
presentaiton, that button becomes available to take you back to the "main"
color scheme. For example, right-click a different color scheme in Design |
Colors and then click Apply to Selected Slides. Then click Design | Color |
Reset Slide Theme Colors and the original color scheme will be reapplied.

'Cause Baud alone knows what I was doing before ... that SEEMED the
likeliest
answer but I couldn't get "Reset" to light up no matter what. Now it
does.

I know. That's why I typed all that out. ;-) You have to apply a different
color scheme to just some of the slides in the deck before that option
becomes available. Otherwise it's greyed out. (For the longest time I just
thought it didn't work!)
