CF install fails

I'm new at CF, but having just attended a session about it at the UK VS2005
launch event I thought I would give it a go. In the talk the speaker said
that the current Compact Framework 2.0 install might fail, and indeed that is
the case. I get the message "Application Manager cannot install this
application on your mobile due to an invalid setup file. Reinstall and try
again." I have an O2 XDA Exec, which for the benefit of non-Uk readers is a
branded HTC Universal so I have Windows Mobile 5.0.

Anybody have any idea what the status of this is, or whether there is a
workaround? I can't see anything else on this forum about it, but I find it
interesting that the speaker warned us in advanced that it didn't work.

While new at the CF as well, I have an i-mate JasJar which (AFAICT) is
a device of the same family, related to the HTC Universal.

What worked for me is the following: find NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab - on
my machine it was located in

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio
8\SmartDevices\SDK\CompactFramework\2.0\v2.0\WindowsCE\wce500\armv4i\

Copy that file to the device (I used an SD card but I guess ActiveSync
will work as well), and launch it via File Explorer. Select to install
to device memory and not the card as that apparently won't work.

I was able to deploy and run Windows CE 5.0 applications via Visual
Studio and ActiveSync to the device after that step.

Gilles [MVP].
