I am tryint to install DSL service through verizon, but
erro 781 keeps up popping up. Verizon tech service said
to contact Microsoft because the error has to do with
a "cerification error". Has anyone had a similar problem
or suggestions on what to do? i have windows 2000
professional.

Jose:

You don't need *any* Verizon software to use DSL service - none.

If you are in a former GTE area they use DHCP.
If you are in a former BellAtlantic area, like myself, then you are using PPPoE.

You can use the free RASPPPoE software to make the connection or even better, get a
DSL/Cable Router such as the Linksys BEFSR41. This device will make the PPPoE connection
for you and has *many* benefits including, but not limited to: 4 port 10/100 Ethernet
switch, DHCP server, allows upto 253 PCs on the LAN side and a simplistic FireWall.

If you have NOT created an account yet, you still don't need software as you can do this
over the phone.

Also, note that Verizon has its OWN Private news group area for support. The hierarchy is:
0.verizon....
