Sameh Ahmed

hello there
I have a VPN connection that I use to connect to my work's network.
PPTP with certificate authentication, the problem I am facing is that
suddenly I double click the connection but nothing happens.
I checked the security tab, and I found that the "Use extensible
Authentication Protocol (EAP)" radio button drop down menu is empty?
I reinstalled windows (Upgrade) and still the drop down menu is empty,
installed SP1 and still the same.
any ideas?
I am using windows XP pro.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Sameh

Do you have a valid user certificate on your computer? Also, you need
to enable EAP/TLS for cert based VPNs...

hello Jeffery
Yes I do have a certificate and private key.
My problem is, EAP drop down menu is empty instead of having the smart card
or MD5 EAP types.
Any ideas?

I've seen one of reference of this issue in the newsgroup with no
known resolution...

Do you have anything logged in the event log related to EAS or RAS?

this windows XP was upgraded from W2k Pro.
I search both System and application event log for error and found nothing.
the only thing of interest that I found was the following error that I found
under winnt\setuperr.log:
Error:
Setup encountered an error while trying to set system security.
An extended error has occurred.
any ideas?

That does sound like a troublesome error...

I'm researching and will post back if I find out anything (or hoping a
MS PSS Engineer can also respond).
