using xp (word 2000) printing to an HP 5si, certain fonts
will not print. they show up fine in the .doc when
previewed, but will not print, all other fonts on the doc
print fine, but where these are, is blank. Uninstalled,
reinstalled printers and fonts. Has anyone ever seen
this before? Any help would be appreciated

Yes, I have seen this. When you state that you reinstalled fonts that's a
signal to me that the fonts are not standard (but to me if it's not courier,
arial or times, it's not standard but that's just me).

If you disable the Advanced printing features in Printer Properties
advanced, the fonts will be forced into bitmaps before being sent to the
device.

If the printer has a PS personality, add a printer that uses the PS driver
rather than PCL and see if the PS driver does better for you. Reverse that
if you are currently using the PS driver.

Also check the font substitution list in the driver properties and verify
that the memory setup in the driver is the same as that installed on the
printer.
