I'm running XP SP2 MCE IE6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 on a dual
core P4 3.0ghz HP Pavilion. Sun Java 1.5.0 build 1.5.0_06-b05 is installed.
Up to date McAfee Security Center & Spybot S&P installed and recently
checked. Default Internet Options Security settings selected in IE.

There are a few sites which freeze IE and have for several months like
www.starz.com & www.microsoft.com/games/pinball for instance. I've tried
most (short of reinstalling IE) of the suggestions with mixed success
including clearing TIFs & cookies, reregistering the DLLs in support kbid
281679, disabling/reenabling each and all IE add-ins & BHO's, shutting off
McAfee ScriptStopper and reinstalling download of Windows Script 5.6.

The reinstall of Windows Script 5.6 solves the problem on some URL's such as
www.starz.com but not all such as www.microsoft.com/games/pinball. Oddly,
after closing IE and reopening IE, the www.starz.com URL ceases to respond
again.

Any other suggestions for anyone??

Hi,
Any other security, privacy, ad-blocking programs running? Google toolbar or
Yahoo toolbar? How about the McAfee privacy service or phishing filter? Are
you using any of Spybot's realtime protection?

For testing purposes, I disabled everything, Google BHO's, McAfee Security
Center ScriptStopper, IE Pop-Up blocker and haven't activated Spybot
Immunize. The curious part is after reinstalling download of Windows Script
5.6, www.starz.com, for instance, will load but after exiting IE and
reloading IE, that URL causes the not responding condition.

Hi,
Longshot: Delete the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Make sure that you can see hidden files (Folder Options> View) Then
login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (startup in safe mode) and delete the affected
TIF folder from Windows Explorer. It will be at [C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files]

315222 - A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222

Set the size of the new TIF folder at 50-60 MB.
- - -
Another longshot: Clear the Java cache. Control Panel> Java Plugin> Cache.
- - - - -
Try this test *very* briefly because you'll be running with security
programs shutdown...
Startup in Safe Mode with Networking.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=315222 If the problem with
starz goes
away, a program that didn't load in Safe Mode is causing it. Actually, you
might have to reinstall Windows Script 5.6. then immediately run the test.

Hope this helps,
