I have got Excel 2003 and Windows XP. When I select a cell and then try to
click to select a different cell the first cell won't deselect. Consequently
I cannot click off the spreadsheet at all and just keep highlighting bigger
and bigger areas of cells. The only way to quit is Ctrl Alt Delete. The
error message "cannot quite microsoft office excel" comes up but it
nevertheless quits after telling me that the programme is not responding.

I had this problem before and if I remember rightly there was a patch for it
that worked to fix it on the microsoft website but i cant find it now.

Please do not tell me it is to do with sticky keys or pressing f8 or my
mouse because it is nothing to do with that. This is an intermittent problem.

You get this error when Excel is in 'Edit' Mode. (Try pressing F2 and
exit).

It is most probably a problem with the mouse drivers. The user should
try
updating or re-applying these and see if it fixes the issue
