Ron

Hi,

I started to have a problem with excel, I used to be able
to highlight the cells and was able to see the totals at
the bottom, but for some reason this feature had stopped
working. I no longer can see the totals. I've removed
office and re-installed it but no change. Any input is
appreciated. Thanks

Ron, working on '97 right now but I think it should be in the same place, go
to tools options and check status bar

Chances are those cells contain text. Try the following:

(1) In some cell next to a cell that contains what appears to be a
number, enter =ISNUMBER(<cell-of-interest>) What do you get?

(2) Select an empty cell. Copy. Select the cells of interest. Edit |
Paste Special... | Operation section | Select Add. Click OK. Does
that solve the problem?

Actualy I didn't decribe the problem properly. he issue
is when I attemt to add the numbers in the cells, the
status bar is visible but all I get is Min= first cell
only.

Right click where the 'Min' comes up and you get the choice of which
function you want - eg sum, max, average - and this will become default
